Tabú Design developed a complete interior furniture concept for Wellness Uluwatu, an aparthotel designed around modern living, wellness and a strong connection to Bali’s natural surroundings. The interior design combines warm materials, soft natural tones and clean lines to create a calm and refined atmosphere.
Set in the natural surroundings of Uluwatu, Bali, this wellness project is designed around a more holistic approach to wellbeing, bringing together movement, recovery, rest, and everyday living in one considered environment.
Developed in partnership with sunny development group. The project combines residences with dedicated wellness experiences, drawing inspiration from Bali’s traditional heritage while embracing a more modern approach to health and lifestyle. This balance between traditional wellness practices and modern approaches to health naturally extends into the world of biohacking, where design, technology, recovery, and lifestyle come together to support a more intentional way of living.
We provided a complete bespoke furniture solution across three different apartment layouts, premium standard and studio. Each layout was carefully developed to balance functionality comfort and efficient use of space while supporting the needs of both sort and long stay guests. Working closely with the project team, Tabú Design developed the furniture designs and managed the complete process from design development, in-house manufacturing and on-site installation:
Fixed furniture: Bespoke integrated wardrobes and storage units, bedroom furniture, dining areas and other built-in elements tailored to each apartment layout.
Loose furniture: Dining tables and chairs, writing desks, bedside tables and complementary pieces designed to create comfortable and functional living spaces.
Materials including solid teak and Java oak wood, along with textured and woven fabrics, were carefully selected for their aesthetic qualities, durability and ease of maintenance to meet the requirements of a high-traffic hospitality environment.
One of the defining details of the Uluwatu wellness project the use of handcrafted carving, bringing a strong sense of character and Balinese identity into the spaces. Rather than being used simply as decoration, the carved elements become part of the overall design language, adding depth, texture, and a connection to the island’s craft heritage.
the carving creates a balance between traditional Balinese craftsmanship and a clean, contemporary setting. The result is a space that feels rooted in Bali while still being calm, refined, and modern a reflection of how traditional craftsmanship can naturally shape a contemporary wellness environment.
